Can i put a red tail shark or rainbow shark in this tank??

I need something that's at the mid level. The fish i have now stays at the bottom. Except for the danios they're all over the place.

I would say no, because of the loaches. Red tailed sharks will harrass/attack/kill fish that are similar to them shape-wise. With other fish, they're kind of schizophrenic. They don't mind them one day, and the next they hate everyone. On top of that, they aren't really mid-tank dwellers, as they will stay on the bottom most of the time (at least mine does). The danios may be the reason your tetras and gourami stay near the bottom. If I'm not mistaken, neither are as spastic as danios are. The constant movement of the danios may annoy them and make them want to stay near the bottom. How heavily planted is your tank (real or fake)? Plants give fish a sense of security and fish will swim in more of the tank if it has a lot of plants, where as they will tend to hug the bottom if it doesn't. Hope that helps.

The loaches will be fine with a red Tail black shark... I keep RTBS's with my loaches and if anything, they beat him up more then the other way around. The shark is however rather clueless as to who he can attack so that doesnt help matters. Every fish is a little different.

I find that my current Red Tail Shark (5") tends to hang out at the mid to lower mid sections of a 2 foot tall tank or closer to the bottom of an 18" tall tank.
