Hi Friends !

Just wanted to know if its ok to have the water flow a little on the higher side, in a brichardi tank ? Will the water flow stress them and eventually kill them ? Will it affect their breeding ? Will it distrub the baby brichardis (that is when mine breed and have babies ?)

I have 2 options - either to use a spray bar, which I will only be able to install such that it sparys jets of water 'on' the water surface ( that is it will be above the water surface, spraying vertically downwards) or to have the setup that I currently have - using a wide jet pipe which is causing excellent water surface movement, but is also causing a water flow on a little higher side... (its a eheim 2217)

So Which one would be better - the spray bar or the current setup with the wide single jet on water surface ?

Kindly guide me a little...
Thanks and Regards
Kush

Personally I think they would be fine. I have one of those Cascade internal filters on my Brichardi tank, and it kicks up a pretty good current. There is structure to give the fish a chance to escape the high flow. It may not be their favorite thing, but I'm sure they appreciate the water quality.
In the lake there are currents in the shorelines they inhabit, so I'm thinking they're fine.

i have an internal filter which i have an angled flow pipe pointing at the top of the water surface breaking up the water surface to oxygenate the water (as well as a 28" bubble wall), i also have an external filter and i have the spray bar at the opposite end to my internal filter and i have it pointing down at about 45 degrees to create a stronger current to push all debris towards to filter to keep the sand cleaner and refuse waste stuck around base of rockwork.

i havent noticed any swimming issues and quite often the fish and catfish all angle up towards to spray bar and swim into the current for short to long periods of time.

so i dont think its an issue at all.

i think i may have a pair ready to breed soon so i shall hope that that happenes but i doubt the water flow would affect fry as they could hide in rockwork.

:)

Hi friends !

Thanks a lot for the replies and for caring & guiding me... I removed the Wide Jet Pipe and have installed the spray bar such that its about 1" above the water surface. There are about 8 small-fast jets of water sprayed on top of the water surface. Does this sound ok ? I was worried about the flow because the current was looking a little too much for my fish. I found that they all would constantly hide under the rocks and caves etc and as soon as I used to shut down the filter they all woudl come and start swimming gracefully... may be they didnt like the water flow ?

Now, with this setup, I dont think the water flow will be as high as before but what this does is - it makes a lot of splashing-spraying sound on the surface. Just wanted to know if this will spook the fish and again make them hide in the caves ?

Kindly guide me...

Hey Aaron ! Please keep us updated if they breed ok under the water flow conditions. All the best for their breeding though - I hope you'll have lots of wonderful baby fish soon :)

Thanks Nag.

Erm it should be fine but you are going to leave the filter on 24/7 aren't you?

Well my spray bar is actually just under the water surace as my other filter breaks the water surface, you might be able to see in my full tank photo.

The spray bar above the water makes too much noise for me as my tank is in my bedroom so with it under the water it means i can sleep but above the water is should be fine and will help oxygenate the water too which is always good!

Keep an eye on the fish if they appear to hide then put it under the water surface and try that but leave it a few days and some fish are a bit different to change compared to others. My fish are not shy at all and when my hand goes in the tank they clean my arm haha.

Good luck.

Hey Aaron wow i love it when my fish do the same nibble at you when you place your hand inside the tank pretty cool aye.. is that weird or what..

Hey Kush you should be fine it sounds like you corrected the problem so if they go back to hiding just play around with the spray bar..

If your creating a jacuzzi and the water is too powerful than yes they will hide hang on or trip out but keep an eye on it and see what happens with how you set up this spray bar.. sounds good thou..

It looks fine doesn't appear to be too strong. you added some more fronts to right..

Hi there !

Thanks a lot for having a look. Yes, I got / rescued 3 more 2" fronts which were in a very bad shape (torn fins, wounds etc) but I guess all my fronts will soon have to go back as I'm not able to upgrade the tank... and I guess this will be too small for them...

Anyways, thanks a lot for caring and for the kindness... If I may ask, is the aquascape atleast a little good ? Sorry again for asking this, but I was very excited about it and wanted to know what people think...

Kindly let me know your comments if possible...
Thanks a lot !
Have a Wonderful day !
Kush
