I just relocated to Colorado and starting to set my tank up again and try to do it right this time. Two quick questions the inside of the tank is filthy can I use Windex or some thing of that nature? And should I start the cycling with or without Live Rock.
I don't know about the live rock, but DO NOT use windex to clean the inside of your tank, or any other cleaner, use only plain water, cold or hot doesn't mattter. You don't want to use a cleanser and risk leaving behind residues that will harm or kill your fish. Have a great day!!
I’m going to fill it with RO/DI water will I need to condition the water if I use the Clorox? Pluming the system today, mite takes me about a week to be ready to fill.
no, you don't need to do anything special, RO/DI water is fine. Just get the ratio about right and have at it. A week is plenty of time to air out and let the chlorine gas off. Good luck!
I might also suggest scrubbing it with plain white vinegar and water... I've had success with that to remove the mineral deposits and stuck-on gunk. Just be sure to rinse it really well afterwards.
If you have the white mineral dposits on the glass, scrub it down with some salt. I like to use aquarium salt becuase it has bigger pieces, but household salt will do it. I did this to mine and the white marks came off pretty easy, had to use a little bit of elbow grease.
