is this needed to treat a fish on the back of the box i got it says to remove carbon filters before medication for fungal sickness..my glassfish have a wooly growth it looks like...not ich..been there done that....what should i do

what i mean is do i need to take out the filter..or turn them off before using the meds

take the medium out and just let the water flow freely through the filter aparatus is what they mean

First, how long has the carbon been in the filter? 2nd, what kind of filter do you have? If the carbon has been in the tank for more than about 2 weeks, you can leave it in the tank, since it's no longer active. If the carbon is attached to the other media (as in whisper filters, for example), then you can not remove it, since this will also remove the bacteria hosting in the media and this will result in a nasty ammonia spike--not what the fish need right now!

2nd, since these are glass fish, I'd forego medication and treat with salt instead. You need to clearly idenfity the problem, but know that glass fish are very prone to getting a viral infection that gives them a fleshy growth that looks like cauliflower. It's not contagious, and seldom lethal, but it indicative of stress. Is the tank cycled?

i have one aqua teck 20-40 and one biowheel 150...i use all the chemicals to enhance bioligical filtration..just put all new filters in today

Unless you're using Bio-Spira, the other bacteria-in-a-bottle products are total bunk, and more likely to cause stress and problems than they are to help.

Do you have test results? If not, that will be important to get.
