Why in the world are Rena products so darn expensive?? Are they that much superior to other great products of high quality?? I have never had any Rena products myself, but maybe some of you can shed some light on this for me....Thanks

Being cheap, I just wait for online sales ... :o

The Rena products that I have, several filtrs and a couple of air pumps, are very nice products. The filters may look expensive, but when I put them side by side with Eheim and Marineland filters with comparable ratings, they are bargain basement priced. Lots of people on this forum refer to the Rena filters when saying other brands are superior and use words like you only get what you pay for. I find the air pumps far superior to others I have used and not very expensive and find the XP series filters are quite good.

Yeah when you actually compare a Rena canister to a comparable canister of another brand (same gph rating, same # of media baskets) I believe Rena is cheaper. I also love my xp1 and air pump from Rena, worth every penny IMO. The filters are expensive compared to a typical HOB, but there I think there you are definitely getting what you pay for.

Hey you gotta shop around and look for those bargins. I got my xp2 off of craigslist for $50, check out ebay also. There's nothing wrong with having used stuff, as long as it works :)

In comparison to other 'quality' mfgrs. most times RENA is a good bang for the buck. Prices vary on certain models (still waiting for pricedrop on XP4). On-line prices are generally best while most LFS prices are the worst. Can you buy a cheaper filter...... sure; but I don't recommend skimping on the 'heart' of your system. "T"

I bought a used XP3 Saturday. It was a little bit of a headache to setup, but afterwards I know that was only due to inexperience and the lack of any kind of instructions.

However, I will say my eheim 2026 was easier. However, for the money, even on the used market, the Rena is a nice choice. After only one day's use, I would recommend a Rena for someone that didn't want to spend the money on an Eheim.
