Okay what's the deal with this - I see it only at PetsMart. I look on Rena's website and it's as though the product doesn't exist. Search all over the net and absolutely nothing comes up except a few random ebay auctions.

I'm very interested in these filters...but being as though they are expensive at the store (I NEVER pay store prices) and no one has reported on their quality as of yet, I am skeptical but highly curious.

Anyone?

I've also been interested in seeing more about these filters as they appear to be a fairly sound design. It really seems odd that AP doesn't have them listed on their websight though.

I've been trying to find information on them too. I saw them at Petsmart last week and thought it would be great for one of my tanks, but they are expensive. I am going to continue my search on line. The manager of my local Petsmart is a friend, but is on vacation and will return on Monday. Hopefully I can get some information when she returns.

THis is the HOB one with the square bags that pop down through the top of the filter?

If so, I looked at one at Petsmart.... kinda took it out of the box. Looks really convenient for maintenance but also for putting a decent amount of carbon or other media in when compared to other HOB's.

But.... I'll stay with my Penquin that I can by cheap filter inserts at Walmart for 1/2 price of anywhere else in bulk.

i bought one today, i bought the smartfilter 55, dont know much about them but it seems pretty good. i just set it up and havent had it running that long. seems to be pretty good though

I own a Rena XP2 for my 46 gallon cichlid tank and it works wonderfully. It's super quite, efficient and user friendly. If you go online to Aquarium Pharmaceuticals you'll find Rena information. They are the manufacturer.

Actually I have not been able to find squat on the Rena site for several weeks. They just added the XP4 to the site even...but still nothing about the SmartFilter. Its a freakin' ghost.

IMO they are over priced for what you get. Not even close when it comes to gph when it comes to an Aquaclear.

True, but somehow I don't take it that these are made for GPH or basic horsepower. They have a very unique cartridge design and lots of space for selected media.
