the rena xp3 is much cheeper than the ehiem, but will it do a sufficient job for a 75 gal?

Yes. I have a Rena XP3 on my 55 gallon, because I wanted more flow as it was sized for a 75 gallon. Still, it's always better to go with two filters if you can do so.

I saw these at PetSmart today from someone else's post. Print out the page and price match. You can have filtration on two sides of your tank. The only downside is that these hang on your tank, but if you have the room behind them, go for it.

so the magnum is a power filter? what duz that mean? and could i get like one of those and a rena xp3? or is that just a waste of money?

It would be a great idea to get an XP3 and one of those Magnum filters. You would have great circulation in your tank. Price match both on PetSmart.com and get it in store. No waiting!

alright. well the only problem is that if i get both then i won't have any money left to buy sand and slate. could i just buy the rena xp3 and get the magnum later on? also, i wanted to get another powerhead to increase the current in my tank, will the magnum do that for me?

The XP3 is rated at upto 175 gallon tanks (not 75 as stated above)....so you should have plenty of filtration for your 75 g tank ;)

Just looked and the smaller XP2 is the one rated for a 75g

ya, but with mbuna u want as much circulation as possible right?

Either one is an excellent filter. Being cheap, I'd go for the XP3, but you can't go wrong with either.
