I've posted this elsewhere and gotten no response, so I'll try it here. I want to set up a 50 or so gallon indoor pond (its a rubbermaid bin) for a red-eared slider turtle. I found this website with instructions to make a DIY submerged filter:

http://rodandjenn2.home.mchsi.com/Adam_s_Filter/adam_s_filter.html

Will this work ok? It needs to be an internal filter because of a lack of floorspace otherwise I would do something similar in an external 5 gallon bucket. Any suggestions for modifications or links to plans for something completely different would be much appreciated.

Saw your post in DIY Fresh.

It would work ok, I've seen many built in ponds like that. My only gripe is that there is so little lava rock, the bio filtration would be sparse. If I had a filter that small I would use a finer bio media like deramic beads or that eheim media that looks like cocoa puffs.

Just a thought...

it would work......but ive seen/ own a filter like this one except that i bought mine from home depot for 20 bucks

Yes, the Adam's filter works great. They work really well for indoor ponds where they don't deal with as much gunk as an outdoor pond. They get clogged pretty fast in outdoor setups.

Its not specifically shown but I think there's a hose out the bottom that would go to the other end of the pond or something.
