hey everybody,
I have a question regarding a type of paludarium (well, almost a paludarium).
I have a standard 10 gallon but I just thought of an idea! I am thinking of upgrading to a 20 gallon HIGHHH! It costs $40 at Big Als. The dimensions would be: 20" Long, 10" Wide, and 24" High. I would be able to use the same hood and everything.

I am planning to keep the same amount of water for fish (20x10x12) and using the top half of the tank for a reptile and dry setup of some sort. I was wondering if this can be done. I've seen a lot of setups like this. I have a submersible filter, heater etc. The fish would have the same space (10 Gallons) while the reptile would have the other half.

I was wondering what reptile (if any) would be compatible with: 4 Multi Shell Dwellers, 1 Peaceful* Male Betta, 6 Neon Tetras and 2-3 Otos.

Also, can I get some advice (maybe some links) on how this would be done? That would be awesome. And can someone tell me what this type of setup is called (LOL)?

P.S. If I were upgrading for the fish, I'd get a 20 long, however I like the high tank with reptile idea better.

I've had that idea of creating a wet-dry enviroment for my crayfish. I think he might like to go out of the water sometimes... not sure.

I'm nor a reptile fan but I know most reptilian creatures will try to eat small fishes.

For the set up, you could go with a large vertical driftwood and plant it in the gravel. Then, it can be laid on one of the tank sides, or you could stick some pieces of wood from one side of the other using silicone. There are many live plants that have their roots under the water but flourish in the air, so that would be a nice addition.

A cascade can be contructed using a simple HOB filter, which would send the water down from a hill built on plastic or some rocks.

Possiblities are endless.

Thanks patoloco! Sounds easy enough for me to pull off lol. I already have a filter for the water (elite stingray 10) which is fully submersible and I might even be able to pull off a waterfall with it! I basically have everything set up in terms of fish. I need to get more info on the reptiles and their compatiblities, etc.

Also I gotta thank TipStylez. I never even spoke to u about this but your thread inspired me! (heres his thread) http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=69630&highlight=styrofoam

I'm doing the styrofoam background too! This would take a while though so I'm expecting this to be a march break start, and a summer holiday end.

For fish, the more water the better. It's a rule no one can change. Depending on the type of reptile you are housing, it might require more or less water.

Oh, I don't know. I didn't know you wanted something to go into the water. Those would be called amphibians, not reptiles. The gekos would stay out of the water and stick to the sides of the tank mostly. Just start looking up different types of amphibians and see what you find.
