i was doing a water change in my parents pond the other day, and i saw this black mystery apple snail. i've had them before and i know they can't survive the cold, so i pulled him out and he was still alive. i pushed on the hard little plate they cover the shell opening with and it was firm and solid, and he didn't smell fishy, so i put him in a (clean) bucket with pond water and brought him inside so the water could slowly warm up. he's doing better now. i attached some lettuce with a rubber band to a large, heavy shell. i'm going to put him in my tank once its cycled, but until then i have to keep him in a large vase i used to have my betta in. will he be alright in there if i do like 50% water changes every other day and keep the water good and clean?

He'll be fine, they're not too picky about their water, but he'll appreciate it being clean!! How big is it?

a little less than 3/4" opening on the shell.

This is a little off the subjuct but, I've always put a few of these in my ponds as well. Is it just me or are their shells all as sharp as razor blades? I cut my self pretty bad yesterday when I was getting my pond ready for the winter and moving some of them and some plants into my green house.
Just curious
Chris

i've never noticed that. the few that i put in my pond one year died because it got too cold. the fish ate them. my mom must have gotten a few more and put them in over the summer. i couldn't find any others.
