I'm looking to reseal an aquarium before I set it up. It's a used tank I got, and has obviously been resealed before. Some of the caulking is sloppily spread out three or four inches from the actual seam. It's pretty ugly to look at. Anyway, I was looking for any advice, tips or anecdotes concerning resealing that may help me do a better job when I set to it.

clean off all the old sealant..you will need to use denatured alcohol or another solven to remove residue as the glass needs to be clean and free of residue.

you can use a razor blade to remove the old silicone..you will need to find a silicone that can be used for aquariums..I usually buy the tube for silicone guns.

and if you've used silicone before..it's the same way to run the bead then (I use a finger-wet) and lightly 'press' the silicone bead out(light pressure run the finger down the bead of silicone.

The key is getting the glass clean.scrape with a razor blade scuff it with a scotchbrite pad then scrape it again.Use a caulking gun and wear rubber gloves.let it cure for a week.
