restarting cichlids

okay i am going to restart cichlid keeping. i have 1 tank now but im giving all those 1's to a neighbour whos a huge aquaist(about 20-30 aquariums). im sticking with malawi so what kinds?, what kind of tank set-up?, any other details i should know? thx!

Are you gonna keep the mbuna and venustus from your 20?

im gonna keep the venustus as i think he may be 2 different species in 1. hes got kenyi and venustus markings on him! not the temper of kenyi's though i have 1 yellow lab im gonna keep(about 1 inch big) and a crippled red zebra(attacked by a kenyi and or auratus) once he recovers. hes in an 8 gallon recoop tank right now.

What size tank are you planning ? That will determine most of what you can do as regards africans.

for the moment, a 20 gallon until i have enough money for a 55 gallon. i really like the german blue rams though can u guys give me some info on them?

Blue rams should be fine for a 20 gallon but they cannot be housed with any of the africans you have. Those will need to be relocated...are you sure your neighbor has the proper setups for the fish you are giving away?

Don't put malawis in the 20, until you have the 55...then you can use it to grow out juveniles...no point in trying to plan a stock for the 20 made up of malawis.

Agreed. If you want the malawis plan for the 55. Otherwise base your stocking around the rams and go with th 20.

yeah im sure theyll be fine there he breeds them regularily and has about 60-70 different species in his house. and after research on the blue rams, bolivians are looking alot better now.... can i have info on bolivian rams on how to take care of em?
