I plan to buy a aquac remora skimmer for a 29 gal sw tank. But all the places where i check say to chose which pump i want...either the rio or the maxi jet. And im guessing this pump will go inside the tank......stupid question...a water pump isnt the same as an air pump right?.....Any help will be highly appriciated. Thanks!

Right, they are not the same. They are just as they state, air pump-air, water pump-water.

If I had a choice between the two, I would opt for the Maxi as I dont care for the reliability of the Rio's.

Maxi Jet, hands down. Do a search on RC for Rios if you want to read some real horror stories.

The jury is still out on the new Rio pumps (they have the output on the side). I wouldnt want to be the one to test it and figure out its as bad as its older cousins though...

LOL - I still wouldn't even try one for mixing my salt water. My old 2100 and 2500 are still free to anyone willing to pay for shipping :)

I can't imagine that the quality is much better in their new pumps. There's just so many other better quality pumps out there at reasonable prices, that I don't think it makes sense to risk going the Rio route.

What happened with the Rios? Just stop working or did they start shocking people?
