I have two pieces of rock from my parents garden. I know they brought some rock back from Gulf Shores years ago, and some from creeks and rivers in Indiana. Each piece is different in color and one seems to have green growth on it. They have been outside in a garden for over three years now. What should I do to see if they are say for the tank. And if one was live rock at one time would it be safe for the tank?

In a garden makes me leery of pesticides.

agree..add to that live rock can add to kh increasing the pH.

They don't really use any pesticides, they just water the plants. I think I will put them in my 10g quarantine tank and see how they do. I checked them with vinegar and no fizzle. If they seem fine I might also, throw in some guppies that some how keep multiplying in my sons tank in there and see how they do.
