Can you use any rocks you find in the garden for your freshwater tropical tank once you've cleaned them. If so, do you just give them a scrub and a few days soaking?

They can be used as long as the garden has not been laced with pesticides and other harmful chemicals. Test each rock with vinegar as some rocks can alter your pH. If the bubbles appear, it may be best to avoid such rocks. I simply use hot water and salt to clean and scrub them. Be careful when using boiling water with the rocks as these might explode causing serious damage to you and your property.

most stone will explode if you heat it to a high level ,At work i have come across that lime stone will explode, marble will crumble (do not put polished marble or granite in your tanks unless you now how it was polished and there was no chemicals used as some of them are very TOXIC) granite will explode and and sand stone will to and slate will shatter hope this helps.
