RopeFish

I really want to get one of these guys and they are on sale right now for 24.99$ at the LFS but I would like some first hand knowledge at caring for them ie what kind of tank would be suitable foods and their aggressiveness? I plan on having an approx 45 gallon planted corner tank soon right now I have a 33 gallon long tank.

Thankyou for your time.

I had one for a little while I got for free when I worked at a pet shop, Mine was not aggressive, I had two pacus and they also silver dollars he never bothered them, he usually was in hiding tho... and really liked to eat bloodworms, shrimp pellets, occasionally earth worms, and they can eat smaller fish... so watch out. Most rope fish die from jumping out of the tank so make sure you tightly secure the lid!! I had to give mine away, but I hope this helped.

In my experience, they are not aggressive at all. I had two of them together and saw no aggression either between them or towards any other fish. I have read that if a fish will fit into their mouths, they will eat it though.

Both of mine ultimately died by escaping from the tank. Be sure to keep the top closed tightly and don't leave any holes for them to get out or they will! If I ever get anymore I plan to build a screen to cover the entire tank under the lids.

Mine didn't live long since they escaped, but most info I've read says they can grow up to 36". If they do get that large, they would outgrow your tank so be sure to keep that in mind also.

Good luck to ya!
