i got in a semi argument in line at my LFS. i was buying feeders and some dude started asking me questions bout my tank, and then said i should get a royal gourami, because the can be easily converted to brackish.

i told him that he was probably wrong, then he told me his friend had two in a brackish tank with muddskippers an some fiddlers. WTF? is this guy on drugs, or is there some credability to his rant?

well, from what i can dig up, "royal" gouramis are just another type of dwarf gourami. can't be coverted, no credibility.

ive been looking to, and they're not the royal blues or red dwarf things. i saw on pic onlinw and the think was a beast! it looked like a cross between a arowana and a gourami. real tight. but i cant find it. i got a species book ill look into
no love dammit

could it be a different fish with a similar name, i actually got the impressin that what he was talking about was considered a full marine fish.....

im confused, sorry to ask so many short bus questions. i am just interested to figure out if there is a brac. fish i dunno know about

if you are talking about the really big gouramis that looks kindof like an arowana, then you are talking about the big kid of the gourami family... they get to 24" long, so youre going to need at least a 200 gallon tank- more will be better.

no, they do not do well in brackish, and this probably stemed from the "aquarium Salt" lies spread from petsmart that every species and its subspecies needs aquarium salt... ugh
