RTS and JD

New aquarium owner: Im starting out with a 55 gallon tank. I would like 2 jack dempsys and probably 2/4 RTS.

Would they be comparable tank mates?
Does gender matter with the selection of the JD's - since it is an aggressive fish should I get a male and female or vise versa?

Also sand or gravel??
Canister or HOB filter ??

What is an RTS??? If your doing Jacks and don't want dead tankmates get 2 males or females. If you get a pair most likely everyone else dies.

The jd will go for the rts, also i wouldn't put 2 jd's in a 55g unless they are a pair.

you might pull off two in a 90...nix the RTS though.
