Early in the day the water main in my town broke or some thing.I guess they fixed it becuase the water is coming out of my sink at full pressure.but their is one problem the water is slightly discolored.it has a redish brown tint.It could be rust i dont know.any way i have to make a water change very soon. And i dont know how long my tap water will be like this.Would it be ok to use this water.If not can i use bottled water and if so what kind.

Yes you can use bottled water, but you will want to use the distilled. The other option is to test your tap, discoloration usually is metals, if it is not off for what it normally is, then let it sit and the metals/dirt will settle.
I would be safe though and do the gallons of distilled.

I have actually heard more often than not that using spring water is preferable to tap water. Reason being that distilled water is missing some of the necessary dissolved solids that an aquarium requires.
I've used spring water to great success for a long time. In fact I know people who will only keep their bettas in cheap spring water.

Call your Water Company and have them come out and Flush the lines in your area.... When a water Main breaks the water rushing out of the pipes at an uncontrolled rate causes debris and mineral deposit and pieces of rusted pipe to break loose and it runs thru the system until it is all gone... This could take days or weeks... Call them and they can flush from several Fire Hydrants in your area and that will pretty much take care of it.... As far as the water be safe to drink Yeah you can it has chlorine or chloramines so know pathogens will be present or anything else harmful... But I dont prefer brownish orange water :duh:
