S.American/Amazon Community Tank

I have a 75G tank w/ 4 Corys atm - A Clean Slate. My wife and I are very interested in having a few angels (Discus seem a bit much for a new tank).

Which Cichlids would work well in this environment? I am looking for peaceful and probably leaning towards the dwarf species. I would like to target diversity, not a few of the larger specimens and really enjoy watching their interactions.

I was looking into (in no particular order): Angels, Rams, Rainbows, Cockatoos, Kribis, and Firemouth for the Cichlids Spp.

I would love to know if there would be any parameter/compatibility issues and an idea on stocking as well as any other tank-mates.

i have a 55g with 4 angels, 6 cories, 8 flame tetras, and 3 bristlenose plecos. everyone gets along fine. i have another tank handy in case i need to separate the angels if/when they become aggresive towards one another. the tetras get to 1.5" and are round-bodied, so the angels won't eat them (but not for lack of trying on the first day). i would have put a par of bolivian rams in there too, but for some reason i can't keep them alive (they don't eat).

everyone but the firemouth are ok. i would do angels and a pair of rams and a small school of rainbows

Great advice! This really helps me feel a lot better about getting into this!

I used the term S.American b/c that is what I have read to date when parring up community tanks that match closest to my thoughts. I know that there are 'other' region cichlids that would also work and that would be fine as well.

Also, my 75G tank is ending it's 4th week:
NitrAtes 10-20
NitrItes .25-.50
Ammonia .1-.25 (I'm keeping this under .5 w/ PWCs)
Hardness 80
Alkalinity 40
pH 7.2 (never wavers)

I'm not a fan of angelfish... never have been. But I know Kribs and I think they are positively charming. And if you can get your hands on a healthy pair or two of Blue Rams, that'd be a great start. Maybe some neons and kerri tetras and some lovely plecos (check your varieties, there are many lovely ones to choose from that'd be happy in a tank that size!)

And of course, you can't go wrong with a few more cories.

for cichlid..angels, keyholes and rams(I prefer bolivians ..a bit hardier than blues)

you can keep discus with angels..I've done it I even have a wild angel with 7 discus(emergency move) and the angel is doing great in the tank with the discus. but it may be a bit much for a 55.

They have a 75 gallon they are stocking. The 55-gallon was from another poster. Easy mistake to make, though. ^_^;;

Angels and one or two dwarf cichlid species (depending upon how long your tank is). Bolivians, if kept in a group of 5 or 6 can be really interesting - they form shallow pairs, often split and form new pairs, and are highly interactive.

I also like the Laetacaras (dwarf acaras such as curviceps and dorsigera). You could possible have a group of them (although they pair up) in a tank that size.

a couple of angels would look great in your tank.
the rams, dwarfs, or kribs may pose a problem to your corydoras if the cichlids form a pair and spawn, but if you stick to one or two pairs and have plenty of hiding places you should be fine.
