u have a few threads so im gonna put it here. these are pictures of my tanks a 40g, 20g long planted, and 10 temp gallon growout. all painted black back and 2 with brown and 1 with black gravel.

I like what you have done with your tank, but if you are going to paint the back the recommended paint to use is krylon fusion paint. As your tank is already full you would find it a lot easier to get a plain black background from a lfs and stick on, unless you have easy access to the back of your tank to paint it.
Mmm good point on that..it's kitty corner as well so its not like i can slide behind it and do it. Oh well I guess I'm gonna stick with a regular background.

Big hunks of semi precious rock look good in tanks like quartz and tigers eye but if you get quartz it is a PITA to clean so smooth stones are probably your best bet.
good point if the tanks already up... i painted my 40 after it was up and just got paint all over the place.
I personally like the natural decor, I have a large piece of driftwood that a friend of mine found on a beach. I also have a well aged broken cinder block, I'm not sure but I wouldnt recommend adding a new cinderblock to a tank as it could quite possibly change the water quality. I have a few pieces of slate I picked up along the shore line and a piece of sandstone, none of which had any ill effects. The main reason I choose the natural decorations is because I really can't afford the rediculous prices the LFS around here charge, lol, they want at least $50 for pieces of driftwood and close to $100 for the larger plastic structures.

i set up a 55 gal with black subtrate and a black back drop i added a school of neons and they really showed up good but it was just too much black for me it looked very drerry after about two weeks i changed it to vegatation back drop i like it lots better the black subtrate looks very good with the neons
I agree that they are way overpriced at the LFS for their decorations. I definatly dont want the whole skeleton holding the chest of gold bit in there....haha and they dont have much of a selection past that.lol. I'm curious if I put a piece of driftwood will it make the water look tea-ish?
