Salt water testing kit

no the mh light should spread out, anyway you should get 2 150's regardless of the plastic thingy, maybe make the light a few inches to the left or right and it will work, besides, the light will be maybe 5 or so inches above the bar so it wont really block anything, its the way MH light works.

its like this right?

Can you get one long fixture with multiple bulbs to cover the length of the tank? Or two smaller ones, one for each side? Maybe I don't quite understand...how does that middle section significantly block the bulb?

it happens alot when you have a tank that has a centre brace, you end up with a large shadow on the centre area of the tank and brighter on either side of the brace..The centre brace acts like a diffuser..the only sure way around it is to have two fixtures, one either side of the brace..

or you could take advantage of it, have the high light corals like sps and anemones where the light directly hits, and in the shaded area have some low light corals like softies
