Hi everyone:

I am starting a 75G planted tank. I always use a little bit (half the advised dosage on the label) of aquarium salt in my regular tanks for fish health. Since the 75G will contain fish, will I be ok to use aquarium salt in the planted tank?

The 75G will have app. 3WPG, I wplan on using laterite mixed with gravel and am also planning on using Flourish Excel for the CO2 needs

As always, apprecite all your help! :thm:

There's no need to use aquarium salt on any tank unless it's for treating parasites or some other ailment. Long term salt use will undoubtedly have a bad effect on the plants.

I agree, there's no need for it. Aquarium salt is just a gimmick. In the case of treating for disease such as ich, table salt works well.

I'd have to agree with that. Treate fish with salt when they need it afterall they are freshwater fish.

you shouldn't use salt constantly. it should be used for a short time to treat diseases, then be water changed out. it works by irritating the fish's skin, causing excess slime production, which can get rid of many paracites and fungus, but they can become immune to it if you use it constantly.
