Saltwater time...scared

Alright so I am sitting here with stagnant water waiting for my powerhead. I'm thinking about running to walmart tomorrow and grabbing a little aquaclear HOF to get some movement going on in there (they are like $13). What type of media would you run in them? I was thinking just the sponge filter to grab some large particles and that is about it? Some lavastone media to get some bacteria colonies going? Should i definately remove the carbon that comes with it?

Or maybe nothing...who knows?

All i know is that my cloudy water and dead coctail shrimp need to get some movement going on.

Yea, I'd get that water moving. I ran an HOB without any filter cartrage while I was setting mine up. It actually collected a lot of the silty stuff that got stired up while I was filling the tank even though it didn't have a filter. Not a bad deal.

(I ran my bakpack too and that collected EVERYTHING. That thing is amazing.)

"Lava Rock" will work, but even better is finding Tufa (looks like lava rock, but its white and more brittle) which is a calcium carbonate based rock.
