Im new to aquarium fish, got a nice 29 gal setup with a good mech/chem/bio filter but i have qusetions about my choose of decor and how it will affect the cycle in my tank.

Ive 2 modest size silk plants, 1 large silk plant, 2 good size rocks and for the bottom it was suggested to me by a LPS to go with a mixture of crushed coral, reef sand and suger sand. with a put in the bottm of the tank. ive also got 2 platys and 2 tetras as my cycle fish with i choose because they are tuff and cheap. but after about a week of fish crapping the bottom of the tank is reall dirty.
my question is do i need to get some scavengers to clean up the bottom? or can i vacum the bottom somehow with out sucking away all my sand?

its a delicate art
but
what you have to do is vacuum the bottom
and the way to do it is by "swishing" the end of gravel tube so all the junk gets lifted and sucked up
it takes a while but it does work, and you will end up sucking alot of sand to start, but practice makes perfect
