Sand question

I am starting a new freshwater tank. It is an eclipse system 12. I am going to do black sand. I have put filter floss over the intake part of the filter. My question is how much sand should I use. Like depth of sand not amount. Thanks!

Are you going to put in live plants? If so I would go with at least two inches.

I use 2 inches of sand in my planted tank. You should also get a handful of Malaysian Trumpet snails to prevent gas buildup under the sand.

I have read about those snails, do you know a good place to get them from?

If you search dixienut, she has a some for sale right now. Or you can go to a LFS and see if they have them crawling on the glass.
