sand VS. rocks

Try using a plastic container (1-2L) with a lid.
- Fill the container with sand.
- Close the lid.
- Lower the container to the bottom of the tank.
- Remove the lid.
- Slowly pour out the sand.

Personally I love Sand in my tanks....I changed over a 10 gal tank about a month ago from gravel to sand because my other 10 looked so good w/ sand in it....but my point is what you can do is take the fish out and put them in a smaller container for a bit while you complete this task...first drain the water then scoop the gravel out and place as much as you can in some panty hose to keep it...then after this is done rinse the sand (keeps it from floating in the tank and the filter getting stopped up w/ it) then add the water back....some of that water you drained from the tank is good....it has bacteria in it...then place the panty hose w/ the rocks in it and leave it in there for a couple of weeks and everything should be okay....or it was in my case.

Since you really have happy diggers, it might be worth the effort to switch to sand. I have semi diggers and they are fine with a finer gravel. To help prevent them hurting themselves, sand is a good idea imo.

However, I have not done a conversion - but it looks like many have and is possible with minor headache.

Good Luck

Well I am bit confused because there are a lot of contradicting opinions about sand. I want to go the cheapest rout possible with out having to do a ton of work. Is silica sand bad or not? One of my books on fish says it is non toxic, but will it hurt burying or bottom dwelling fish?
