sand & water changes

Put the power head in the bucket with the new water .And point hose into the tank.

I have a 10 gallon with sand substrate...I use the python do suck the water out..just lightly glazing over the sand to get the crap out. To fill it back up I get a bucket of water and pour on to a plastic plate which then trickles into the tank and the sand hardly ever stirs up.........I love the sand substrate.

No dorks here. I sometimes misconstrue what people say, its only natural.

easy...

How do you guys who have sand as substrate manage to do water changes?? I mean, my problem is not messing up the sand when i'm syphoning the water out. the problem is how to put water back in the tank without messing the sand up!!

BUY A PYTHON SIPHON..... It works like butta.....
I did a 30%er last night in 15 minutes. It works sweet....

I have 150lbs of sand in a 125.. I do my cleaning, then I rest the siphon tube on top and close the top over it.. I turn up the faucet to full blast, match the temps and add my water conditioner into the stream as it refills it real fast!!

Get one off of Ebay..... :thm:

Pythons are wonderful...and the "name brand" ones work better in bigger tanks. They are almost overpowering in a small tank like a 10 gal. I was in the same room as mine, and barely had time to get the gravel clean and get across the room and shut the water off before the whole thing sucked out.

For my 10 gal, I got a cheaper no-name python which was smaller in diameter, and didn't hook up to the sink. I would run the water out into a 5 gal bucket I had, and then I kept preped water in 1 gal milk jugs. I had to use several, but are relatively small, easy to handle and free. Just had to be sure I cleaned well first. Then it was easier to control the pour rate back into the tank.
