I have a 75g with a good amount of driftwood and a fine sand (play sand) bed about 2-1/2---3" deep. I have one discuss in the tank and am wanting to add the four I have in a 55g to this tank but I have an algae problem on the sand. What can I do to keep a handle on the algae growth?

That's a pretty loaded question :)
I'd start by reading the algae sticky at the top of the planted tanks forum, that will hopefully give you a starting point.
Post as much information as you have - knowing things like your NO3, PO4, and pH test results, along with tank information (lighting, photoperiod, age of the tank, water change schedule, inhabitants, plants...) may help others pinpoint the cause of the algae breakout.
