i need a small schooling fish for my 20 long. but i have no idea what kind. i already have 6 glowlight tetras and one red honey gourami. NO NEONS OR CARDINAL TETRAS.

whatever i get, i will get about 6 of them

some that i like are:

rummynose tetras
Harlequin Rasboras
pearl danios
whiteclouds
black neon tetras

any other ideas? i will also eventually add 2 female honey gouramis and 3-4 otos.

Have you considered lemon tetras or bleeding hearts?
I have some long finned rosy barbs in my tank and they swim all over and are very active. Their color is amazing and they are 2" long (without counting their tails). I also have some red eye tetras and they are a bright silver color with a black tail and a red eye. They seem to get along well with the others in the tank.

I have 10 white clouds and I love them. I originally got them when I was in the middle of a fishless cycle and had to leave town for a few days. I didn't want a bacteria die off, so I switched it over to a fishy cycle. I bought white clouds because they're very hardy and cheap. I really had no previous intrest in white clouds, but once I got them in my tank I took quite a liking to them. They're hardy, active, and playful. I now have them with cherry barbs, and a paradise fish and the white clouds are easily the most entertaining of the bunch. They also aren't as drab as they fist appeared in the store. Under aquarium lighting with the black backround I have, they actually have a subtle beauty to them.

Of course that's all just my personal opinion and experience, it all comes down to what kind you want, and what you can find at the store(s). Tetra's, Rasbora's, and Danios would all be good choices. Peanutsweet suggested rosy barbs, but those grow to 4 inches (maybe the long-fined ones are smaller?) so that would limit what else you could fit in a 20.

no, i definately need to stick with something 2" or smaller. i already have the stock set for everything else. the focus of the tank will be the gouramis, and i need a few otos for algae control.

I love the golden whitw clouds, but I also love my long-tailed danios and gold danios. They're beautiful and SO active. The danios can be little fin-nippers sometimes, but still gorgeous!

I just got some Green Neon Tetras. They only reach to about an inch and a half and the blue on them is stunning. They look totally badass zooming along or hanging in front of some nice green plants.

i think i'll probably go with black neons. they look pretty similar to my glowlights, only black and blue instead of red. i dont want the tank to be too busy, but i still want some variety. i was originally going to get blue tetras, but i've heard they can be kind of agressive, and they're a bit hard to find here.
