Hi, a few days ago I saw my peacock cichlid with a wound on its eye( the transparent part) due to aggression, the 2 males fought in the rock formation. He might have scratched his eye on a rock during the fight… It was whitish around the scratch.

I placed methyl blue and salt in the tank to avoid infections

What else can I do, will it properly heal & will my cichlid get blind

My guess is that it will go blind in that eye. My yellow tailed violet cichlid got into a fight of some sort and hurt her eye. It turned white and has gotten worse. She is completely blind in that eye, but she is still very healthy. Watch that no one is picking on the poor little fish. Don't want it to have two bad eyes!

I had the same thing happen to one of my malawi blue dolphins last month (scratch damage to clear part of eye). I treated with pimafix & melafix and the wound completely healed in a week.

With the treatment, he should heal. I have only had one fish (discus) go blind, and that was when the infection actually went into the eye rather than on the surface. I would just keep an eye on it... if it looks like it is becoming an internal infection, do a few largish water changes (or a water change and carbon) to remove the meth blue, then get a good anti-bacterial like Maracyn ( I or II will work).
