Hi
Anyone ever remove them from an aquarium?? Was told by a glass co to use a product called "jewelers rouge" using a dremel as a buffer.
Will it work ?? Thanks gary

Hi Gary. Might work if the scratch is very slight. If you can catch a fingernail in it than that's a pretty deep scratch. and the jewelers rouge and dremel may not do it. You didn't say what size tank this is, but tanks are pretty cheap. don't put a $50.00 effort into a $25.00 tank. Just not worth it.

Hi
It's a 75. Got scatches from using a magnetic cleaner with a sand substrate ..
Also did a number on the canister filter ate a hole in the impeller chamber.
The tank served for several years as the bottom of a four layer paludarium.
Scatchers are not deep ,can't feel them with a nail.
The "rouge" is not expensive but comes in many grades. Glass co. was using it on
glass table tops , seemed to work in that ccase??? Thanks gary

when it comes to hard surfaces like glass.. you often are really not going for the actual removal of the scratch.. but more polishing of the rough edge from the scratch..this effective reduces the visibility of the scratch .

I never used jewelers rouge to remove glass scratches before but I have used it to polish stones and I think given enough time and effort you will have good results . Definitely use a dremel or other power tool to do the buffing. Be prepared to put a lot of time into it if the scratch is deep.

Hi
they warned me about the elbow grease at the glass co. Fear that the rouge might create more scratches. Have no idea what grade to start with.
Had I been smart would have turned the tank around lol
Thanks for the help gary

I would get at least 2 grades of rouge, maybe 3. Yes, the roughest one will scratch the glass although it may appear as just a haze or duller area. That is what you need to take out the scratch, or at least to dull the edges so it is less visible. The next 2 grades will be to restore the shine to the hazy area.

You really have to weigh the cost of the rouge and the elbow grease against replacing the tank when someone like Petco puts on their $1 a gallon sale. Or just turn the tank around. After all you will need to empty it to polish it anyway.
