OK... so Anacharis is famous for being incompatable with Excel. I've also read some people claim Vals may be sensitive to it.

Are there any other plants that don't work with Excel?

I have a single strand of Anacharis that came with my MTS- I'm willing to sacrifice it for the good of the planted community in general. I want to make sure my other plants are safe before switching though.

Having just updated my lighting to 2.2wpg- I'm planning on upgrading from my DIY CO2, which I'm not convinced is doing much- especially with the surface agitation.

I don't want to turn off the air-pump because my fish really love the bubbles- especially my Pleco who refuses to come out unless the bubbles are on! ;)

Air- also powers my secondary filtration - sponge... Excel is idea for me since it won't disipate out the surface. (as I'm sure my DIY CO2 is).

I've currently got Star Grass, Guppy Grass, Bacopa, Java Ferns, Java Moss, Marimo, Water Wisteria, Water Lettuce, Moneywort, HM... oh and that one strand of anacharis. And- one really sorry looking Amazon sword who didn't like the low light I had been subjecting it to before now! The other plants handled the low light fine- not my sword though- although in honesty it didn't look in the best shape when I got it from Pet$****.

I will be adding more plants now I have better lighting but want to see which are excel safe.

I know Excel alone isn't as good as CO2- but at 2.2wpg 6500Kelvin I probably don't need CO2 anyway.

I personally hate this question, because you will hear everything from Excel not harming anything(my experience) to it killing off a whole tank of plants. I have kept the following with no ill effects( I know the list is hardly exhaustive, but its something):
Anubias congensis and barteri var. coffeefolia
Rotala rotundifolia
,
Cryptocoryne ciliata wendtii lutea
and crispatula,
Limnophila aromatica,
MIcrosorum pteropus,
Hydrocotyle
luecocephala
Vesicularia Dubyana

Pellia and subwassertang seem sensitive to Excel.

Vals are notoriously sensitive to excel.

Well currently my plants (except sword) seem in good health and I'd be following the recommended dosage.

So- stay away from vals, Pellia and subwassertang and I should be fine?

Wycco I can only tell you about the plants I keep and they are all fine with Excel....anubias, java fern, dwarf sag, hygro, all kinds of crypts, taiwan moss, swords, lotus. It definitely melted vals on me.

OK thank you everyone!

Incidentally, I'm also looking at the Florin Axis (as you might have seen from my other thread)- trying to decide between the two... if I had seperate identical tanks I might run a little experiment to compare... but I don't.

I've read a couple of reports online of people saying Florin Axis works better than Excel- and with no harmfull side effects to any plants... BUT... there is so little third-party information avaialble on it at the moment so I'm split.

Either product I'd need to order- I accidentally found Florin Axis whilst looking up Excel.

I don't have Vals (at least not yet) and I only have one small strand of Anacharis (although I understand that one small strand could become a lot fairly quickly- it's much bigger than it was when I got it already).

In fact besides that... everything I have so far seems compatible.

But... Axis looks cheaper though- and would allow me to grow anything I may choose. (presumedly).

It's a gamble either way- go with the tried and true Excel and know I can't keep a few types of plants. Or go with this new Florin Axis, which may be better- or may not be... it may be hype.
