Selling fish to LFS

source for guppies

Aquabid seems to have lots of listings of 'show quality' fish. I have dealt with Steve at AngelsPlus.com and his fish are top quality. Good service too. And I suppose the 'Plus' is the guppies because he has some in stock right now.

And if this guy is goig to deduct for his losses and he claims 50%, you might want to stick your nose in and try to figure out what he is doing wrong or if he is telling the truth.

I asked at my LFS and they are paying 5 cents of store credit for danios and paying 50 cents of store credit for neon tetras. Unfortunately there are a million people in my area and about a dozen aquarium stores so they don't pay very well, but I guess it's good if I ever run out of space. One of the stores bred their own guppies by accident and they STILL charge a fortune (over 5$ for a pair!).

I sell a variety of african cichlids to an LFS about 75 miles from me. This store is cichlid heaven! I don't know what he pays wholesale for his fish, but I bet it's less than I get. I usually get about 1/3 of what he sells them for, in store credit. I don't raise the fish to make ends meet or anything, but it's fun to get some extra $$ to buy gear every few months.

Unless you get really serious about breeding, it's hard to imagine making any significant money. If you want to do it for the fun, that's another thing entirely.
