Hi Everyone,
I have a community tank with Anglefishs, Cardinals, Bala Sharks, Gouramis, dojo loaches, clown loaches, few diff corys and small Otis etc.
I am thinking of adding in one Senegal Bichir. Did some research and found that this to be the smallest bichir. I have a 160G tank that I just setup.

Any comments on the bicher? Should I add this to my tank? My worry is that it may nip the fins of prized angles and or may eat the cardinals.

Please advise if adding bicher is a good idea or not.
Thanks.

Not a good idea. Your tank size is great but Bichir are true Predators. If the fish will fit in it's mouth it has a possibility of being eaten. Add to that the Bichir are nocturnal predators and sleeping Cardinals and other small fish will become snacks.

Thank you for the reply Just Prince. The more research I do the more I am against it. I have now decided against the idea as I want to keep my cardinals (24 of them). I am now thinking that I should look at freshwater eels. Really fell in love with the black spotted eel. What do you think? Will it it suitable?
Thanks.

Again, your tank size is most likely sufficient, but as these things can reach 20" and are carnivores, you would be risking your cardinals.

Assuming your are talking about the black spotted spiny eel and not some "freshwater" moray variety, in which case...carnivore, not good with cardnials, and water issues on top of that.

thanks everyone for your replies. I have decided to stick with what I have and not introduce bichir or the eels.
Thanks.

All those lovely "rope" type fish will snack on little fish. Unfortunate, but true. I had debated a senegal in my 75 gal, but wanted smaller schooling fish so decided against it. There are plenty of other interesting fish that you can keep in the 160 gal. And it sounds like you've already got quite a few neat fish in there already. Would love to see a pic of the setup!
