Just how big do these fish get??
A fish store has some "senegalensis" bichirs at 5-6" but I thought bichirs got over 20"?

Well, everything I have found suggests close to 12 inches with one saying commonly 10 but up to 13 inches. Also, wild caught apparently they are bigger, like up to 16 inches.Gambusia said:
They usually max out at 12" in aquariums. Larger ones are very rare. AP (aquaticpredators.com), is he number one source for bichir information, but the site is temporarily down.
Agreed w/ Spartan. mine was 12" before I had to give it away. Great eater, great fish, great pet.
Ya, senegals are some of the most "personable" bichirs.
I've had my senegal for a while, hasn't grown at the typical 1" per month rate of others. I think i have a super runt. Only grown an inch or two in almost a year for a grand total of barely 4 inches.
