I am setting up a 90 Gallon tank and sump. I have been researching what I need and I am no sure if I should do a 20, 25 or 30gl sump.

Also I am really not sure of a brand of protein skimmers. I have looked into the Berlin turbo and man they cost some $$. I also so on e-bay that there are some protein skimmers that are the Berlin turbo for sale used... is a protein skimmer something I can get used and that is ok... or should I spend the big bucks for a new one? Also is this the best choice of protein skimmer?

Also how should I set up the sump?

Skimmer -> Return -> Refuge and have a split drain feeding both he skimmer and refuge
Or should I

Skimmer -> Refuge -> Return and have all the water feed into the skimmer part

Thanks for the help...
Mike

I could only fit a 20 long in my stand, so that's what I used. If you have room for a 30 gallon, go for it. I have never, ever heard anyone complain "my sump's too big."

I use a Euro-Reef, and am happy with it. A lot of people seem to like ASM as well. For the price, the larger model Corallife Superskimmer may be worthwhile.

In my sump, I have the flow:
Skimmer-> return <- fuge, with a split drain feeding each, so the fuge has lower flow than the skimmer section.

mogurnda your the best, thanks again. After looking at my stand when i got home from work.. i relized i was mesuring from the back to see if it would fit that way and the 30 would fit but i would not be able to reach into it fromt he front lol.... so i will be useing the 20 long as well.

what size bulkhead did you use on your 90gl?

Also in your stand, is the bottom of the stand where you put the sump on the ground below the frame of the stand or is it above the frame?

Such as:
Bottom of Stand
2x4 frame

or is it
2x4 frame
Bottom of Stand

Thanks
Mike
