Hey everyone I found this site a week ago and found alot of great information and very helpful people. This is my first post hopefully not the last. :D

Here's the basic setup for the tank. Comments welcomed as nothing is cast in stone and no money has been spent yet.

Tank: 75 Gallon tank fish only with 50lbs of Live rock and 2 inch Sand Bed of Live sand.

Hardware: 2x Aquaclear 802 Power heads, Berlin Protein Skimmer, 500 watt Titanium Heater. Standard lighting.

------------------------------------------------------------

Here's the Add on idea. I was speaking with a someone at a LFS and he steered me this direction.

Secondary 20 galTank (no fish) in the base runing about 1/2 to 3/4 full. 1 inch Live sand and 10lbs of live rock. Heater and protein skimmer attached to this tank. With an Aquaclear 301.

I've read that having additional water would be beneficial to the system. Is this even a valid idea? If so would I need to light the secondary tank?

Again comments welcome. :)

Are you talking about attaching both tanks? All he is talking about is starting a refurgium. I personally do not have one at the moment, but it is a good idea. I do not see the need for a second heater or powerhead. I bet some of the veterans could say for sure though.

Plumbing would be running between both tanks. The bottom tank acting as a sump. The bottom tank would be there to place the Protein skimmer and heater. The idea was to have additional sand and rock for additional natural filtration.

I "thought" adding the 3rd power head would allow for better agitation of the water and improve oxigination. And there would only be 1 heater not 2. But I'm a newbie so these are all just guesses. :D

you might see what these other guys with refurgiums have as far as powerheads in them. I would think that the constant circulation would be plenty. you might put a divider wall inside your refurgium to house you skimmer as well.
