severum question

Do you have anywhere to move the silver dollars. IME silver dollars are not the best dithers for serevums. SD'd move too fast and can stress the serevums. I had silver dollars with my serevum and he was always skittish and stressed, i moved them and now he is fine. I moved some australlian rainbow in with him and he seems fine with them. IMO they dont like faster moving fish.

Heres mine and it took a while for me to get him to color up like this....

ok, well you just put my mind at ease, i will work at getting them happier! thanks akapaul !

i wanted to ask, do they like sand better or what type of substrate? i know they like to tear up live plants but are they better for them? i dont mind losing a few plants, if it makes them happy.

Your welcome killieskid! Sand or gravel is personal prefrence really. With serevums they will fair well with either. I personally like gravel. My serevum up roots fake plants and just dont like some fake plants at all. I would skip the plants especially with a pair. In fact the grass in the first pic is not in there anymore he dug it up daily! As jm said they will kick up sand so really its your choice.

well i'm thinking about taking the SD's out and putting them in with my angels and taking the rainbows that are in with the angels and putting them with the severums, redoing the tank because its all large rocks with no place to lay, i'll include a pic, it was pretty, but i like the severums more then the tank design! there are five tiger barb's that i'll move to anouther community tank. And leave the bala sharks there for now, i need to sell them or get credit at the LFS for them, he never told me they get so big and i already have other big fish for my big tanks. Sound good so far? you guys have been a big help with this, i was really worried about them.

oh, by the way, i really like the jag on your avatar, yours?. i just got my first one, absolutely love him! so gorgous. he is about 5" right now.

Nice tank! It sounds like you have a good plan for the fish and a responsible fish keeper. I have had to move fish around a lot to find a good match. Im sure you'll find what works. Yes that is MY Female Jag she is about 8 inches at a little less then a year old. Hehe BTW I have that same background on my 55 gallon that I keep my serevum in...lol.

lol, that is funny! she is a gorgous girl! we went last night and got blue gravel thought the blue would show off thier color more, had been thinking about changing that background, but maybe not. we took all the barbs and silver dollars out last night and the severums already look better this morning! they are moving around more. thanks again for your help!!
