Hi all,

One of my Serverus has developed some kind of growth on the bottom of the inside of her mouth this past week and I am not quite sure what it is. I have not found anything similar to this on the net and why I am posting here.

Tank paramters are good.
Ammonia 0
Nitrites 0
Nitrates 20
PH 7.0

She is about 2 years old and 10 inches long and has stopped eating the past couple days. I have tried to put food in front of her but she just swims away. This is what I am worried about because she and my other Severum are the ones right up front when I feed them.

Her mouth is open constantly so she can breath I suppose. All the other fish in the tank are ok so far.

I have put Melafix in the tank thinking it is some kind of bacteria infection. Any other suggestions to use?

Today it is less red but still about the same size when I first noticed it. It just seemed to have appeared over night. I have checked multiple times and it is not something stuck in her mouth and no missing fish.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I am by far NOT the most experienced on here. In fact, I have very little experience. But just to get you started, and from what I've seen around here, that could be a viral cyst, or a tumor - and I don't think that either of these things has a cure.

I had a betta that had a similar affliction..The cyst would actually disappear and reappear in a different place. Finally, it popped and turned into a huge wound, and the fish died.

Sorry :(

Herpes?

Yea, I was thinking some kind of cyst of tumor myself but I hope it isn't. I may stop by the local fish place and get an opinion from them.

She is still not eating through but still active in the tank.

I will continue to treat the tank and keep an eye on her.

I been thinking about it. I don't have another tank so I will get some type of rubber container instead.

I am just not sure if trying to net and move her will stress her even more. She also isn't the 2 inches when I got her.
