I posted this at MFK too but I figured I would try here as well.

He/she is about 10 months old now....well since I bought it as a tiny little thing. It's about 4 to 5 inches in length.

hey, it looks like a male cause of the long fins with the points . . . i had 2 and i had them in a 3 ft then i put em in a 4 ft and within the first week they had eggs !! but unfortunatley they both died :( good luck with your chocolates :):):):):)
 
Hypselecara temporalis 'Chocolate cichlids' are isomorphic. They need to be vented to determin sex, without them actually breeding for you.

The long fins rule is very basic. Well kept fish of any sex will get the long trailing fins.
