I have 3 african frogs and a small 2" pleco.

My pleco sometimes sucks onto the backs of my frogs. The frogs don't seem injured or anything, at the most just mildly annoyed, and then they usually decide to swim away and find another place to lounge. However, I am concerned that this is somehow hurting them. Is this a problem? :confused:
 
While it doesn't seem to be a problem, it's a behavior I would deffinately discourage. Does the pleco have some driftwood, or even a really funky piece of rock to feed on?
I'd think when the pleco got bigger it would pose a bit more of a problem, or mabey we might see some new frog/fish hybrid. lololololololololhahahahahaha
 
Your pleco is starving and frog skin is quite delicate. Move the pleco to another tank immediately and feed it more in the future. Once that behavior is established, it tends to stay.
 
Hmmm, I doubt the pleco is starving. I give it an algae wafer at night time. It rarely eats all of it (usually about half), and oh my does it poop. :D

Maybe I should have explained this better. The pleco doesn't actively go after the frogs or anything, it's more like it seems clumsy or careless. I have one frog that for some strange reason likes to sit with the pleco. So as the pleco is busily sucking around on the gravel, it will not bother going around the frog, it just kind of goes over it as if it was just another rock. Then it continues on with the gravel.

The pleco doesn't have any driftwood to chew on, but I am going to buy some plants tomorrow so maybe I could get some driftwood as well.

Or is it best that I remove the pleco? I would have to take him back then, as I don't have another tank. I really love him! :sad
 
Just give your Pleco something to work on besides your frog. If you don't, eventually, your frog will exhibit areas where skin is missing and raw flesh is open to infection. Seriously. Move the frog in the meantime or give him a place to hide where the pleco can't reach him. Meanwhile, what DO you feed the pleco?

I feed the pleco alage wafers at night time.

This only happens occasionally, not all the time. The frogs are not under attack, but I don't want this to be a continual problem.

Still deciding what to do. :confused:
 
Give the frogs more hiding places mabey? someplace that the plecto can't get into. Never had any experience with frogs, but I think you should be able to fix the plectos behavior and not have to get rid of him.
 
I dunno... RTR has probably kept more catfish than all the rest of us combined. If he suggests there's going to be a problem in the future, I'd probably consider removing the pleco rather than waiting for advice that fits what you want to do.
