I have 150 gallon tank with an oscar (about 3-4 inches), a fremale convict (about 2 inches), a jack dempsy (about 2.5 inches), a firemouth, 3 plecos, and 1 stripped raphael, and 1 spotted raphael.

Do you think it would be okay to get a red devil? My oscar isnt aggressive, my convict is the most aggressive of them all. She bothers anyone who comes near her territory. The firemouth and jack dempsy dont bother anyone.

Would you suggest getting one? I need to decide quick cuz today is the last day for the fresh water fish sale at Petco. All fresh water fish are 25% off and the red devil is $7.49. Thanks.

Only get the Red Devil if you are prepared to remove everything else in the tank. The only fish that might be able to stay are the Convict, JD and the Plecos.

By the time the Devil reaches 6", it will probably have attempted to kill everything in the tank at least once. But hey, you may get lucky and end up with a more "laid back" fish. In that case, just the Oscar and the Firemouth would have to go.

If I were to get one, what would you think a "laid back" type would look like. Would they be swimming around in the tank at the store or hiding in the caves? I think i might try it. My tank is a little boring with the oscar and the other fish. Should I get another oscar? I used to have a Texas cichlid but it suddenly died and so did my ram.

There is no way to tell how a cichlid is going to act unless you put it in your tank. Even then, their behavior will change as the age.

The fish that you are keeping now are on the passive side for cichlids. You could try more aggressive fish if you remove the Oscar and the Firemouth (Oscars are big push-overs and are easily damaged; Firemouths stay small and don't have the "attitude" like Convicts do). Or, you could keep what you have and add more less-aggressive cichlids.

I would not add another Oscar. Your fish are all very small right now, so you don't know what kind of "garbage machines" they will become when they grow larger. Oscars produce more waster per oz. than most other fish.

Why not add a Severum or a Chocolate cichlid?

I have never seen any chocolate cichlids, do you know where there are some pics?

Also, should i get another convict, hopefully male. My female always lays eggs but doesnt have another convict in the tank. I know they will become very aggresssive, but i can use the babies for feed the oscar?

RED DEVIL

One of the coolest fish i have ever owned! I have had many large devils over a period of 10 years and have never had a laid back devil once they reached 3" or more. Most of my red devils were actually 99% white a very rare color for that fish. All of my devils were grow outs topping 12-14" And around 2# plus 1 to a 100 gal. tank Get another tank, good filtration, lots of food and enjoy a truly large magnificent fish good luck CHEWEY

i dont think there has ever been a "laid back", passive if u will red devil. i just dont think they exhist, but i cold be wrong, just never seen 1.
