i am plaining on setting up a diy wet/dry filter on my 75 gal i know some people use plastic pot scrubbers i was wondering if the net sponges (lufa's) will work as bio media mainly worried if they are treated with chemicals and if so how i would go about cleaning them i dont mean the long tube ones made from plants i mean the poofy ball ones that are plastic

Most likely they are treated with chemicals. If they are, than there is no way to safely remove the chemicals. Just use Bio-Balls. They're probably cheaper than those shower doo-dads anyway.

i dotn think they're treated with chemicals cuz my old roommate had one and it got NASTY.

better to be safe than sorry though.

I wouldn't think they're any more likely to be treated with chems than pot scrubbers are.

That the same thing I used in that pic. I use it to hold down my moss on slate for my carpet...It's been in my tank for months now. Just rinse it a bit and you should be fine. No worries...:)

Orlockorlok: I love this idea. It might also make a good emergency hiding place for fry. I will keep that in mind because we always have some of these poof balls in the house.
