you may want to research that answer before going ahead with that. i've been reading about this as well and it's not as easy as it would sound. For example, when a black person and a white person breed, do we get brown and white striped humans? nope. Likewise if you bred yellow with red, the chances of getting a red and yellow shrimp are extremely slim. i suppose you could get one, but you'd have to selectively breed that same one over and over in order to get a colony and then from there you'd have to stabilize the genetics. In other words, it's not easy and can take years to accomplish.
you might find it easier to choose one variety and selectively breed from that one group to carry on a desired trait, but even that's difficult. remember, the fancy colored neos in the hobby are not like this in the wild.
hope i didn't read too much into your post and hope i shed some light on something for you.
No, thanks for that though! It makes total sense, I've never bred anything before except ghost shrimp by accident but totally know what you mean about the red and yellow.
I was actually trying to avoid them cross breeding, I wanted to have two true breeding and different-looking shrimp in the tank. So I picked up super tiger shrimp (Cardinia cantonensis) and taiwan fire red cherry (Neocaridinia heteropoda) today. They are looking great!
