i have a zebra danio tank and i wanted some shrimp...i want something that is not to expensive and i want something the danios wont pick to bits!!! i have had a few people tell me to try some amano. would that work or do any of you have a better idea???

my water primeters are as follow!!
ph 7.0-7.2
hardness <50ppm
temp. 67-72 degress F

thanks for the help!!!!!:thm:

Neocaridina shrimp like yellow, snowball and cherry shrimp only grow to an inch as adults, but would still be big enough as adults to not get eaten by your danios in my opinion. The babies would probably get eaten, provided the danios could catch them. Shrimp are extremely fast at getting away from predators, so I wouldn't worry too much about all the shrimp getting eaten. Amano shrimp grow to 2 inches and would also be safe from being eaten by danios. They don't reproduce in the same way neo shrimp do, so there wouldn't be any babies for your danios to eat with amanos. I haven't kept danios with shrimp before, and danios can be fast swimmers, so I'm unsure as to how well they can keep up with the shrimp darting around. I really think it'd be fine to keep shrimp with 'em though.

ok i have a lightly planted tank with 4 to 5 plants with a fake one in there too.

i also want something to eat algae!!!!

thanks

If you don't want to be out alot of money you might consider trying a couple of ghost shrimp first to see how they do. Then switch to other types of shrimp if those fair well.

Amanos are the best algae eaters, but won't breed in freshwater.

Cherries eat a bit of algae, and will breed in Freshwater.

I would suggest a school of Ottos(their numbers depending on what size the tank is, and what other inhabitants you end up putting in) for eating the algae....or maybe a Rubber Lip/Bushy Nose Pl*co. But those are best added only once you see Algae!

i just want some thing to eat algae off the gravel and i have a 10 gal. tank so i want something small!!! i was just wondering about ghost shrimp!!!! i think i might give them a try thanks anything else i should know about shrimp?????

what are the best premeters for ghost shrimp?????

thanks again!!!!!

ghost shrimp are just about the easiest shrimp to find. normally petsmart, petco, and petland keep them in stock, along with all the other big chain stores

my ghost shrimp are doing good and well in my 40G moderately planted tank..
they do have good cover so.. maybe that why they are surviving..

ghost shrimp and a good low cost shrimp to test out with.
