I bought three bamboo shrimp about one or two weeks ago. Today I noticed one of them walking around the gravel - Is there not enough food in the water for them to filter feed or is it normal for them to walk around? I don't know that much about them and I have not seen any of them do this before. Any insight out there?

it's not great that they do that..

though, one of mine tends to like go through the gravel.. I see in there in the mornings.. the other one is always fanning.

What do you mean "it's not great that they do that..." Does that mean there isn't enough food to eat , or that something is wrong with the shrimp?

not enough food.

though like I said, I have one that is always fanning, and one that sometimes is in the gravel.

I've been putting in some powdered fry food a little bit a day. just to add something to the water. There are some fry in the tank as well, so they get some, shrimps get the rest.

I've heard liquid foods are recommended too, though I have yet to try that.

i have had my bamboo's just a few days now and they just stay in 1 spot filtering or just hanging out.

A happy and healthy Bamboo Shrimp will be found in a high flow area of the aquarium filtering food out of the water. They will stay in the same position for hours. If the Bamboo Shrimp feels threatened or has just molted it will find a suitable hiding space. If a Bamboo Shrimp is observed picking at the substrate this is a sign that the shrimp is not getting enough food. This is stressful to the Bamboo Shrimp and should be avoided.
