Do freshwater shrimp need to be put in a Q-tank like fish, or can you just add them to an aquarium?

I usually put them in a q-tank and net them out just to make shure that I don't get too much of the LFS water in my tank.
The fish diseases would be more likely in the water than on the shrimp.
The shrimp could have diseases that could affect other shrimp in your tank, so it would also be a good idea to q-tank them if you allready have other shrimp.

Anything that will go into my tank, I will stick into my Q-tank for at least a couple of weeks first. This ranges from everything from plants, to cichlids. Q-tanking my plants ensures that they grow a bit more before I stick them into my show tank. Obviously Q-tanking all other organisms ensures that they are free of diseases. Also, since the stores I buy from have a kind of warrenty on the fish, it'd be easier to catch any dead/dying fish/shrimp/etc in a smaller Q-tank.

Like Richer, I QT everything alive, but for a minimum of 4 weeks, frequently longer - plants, inverts, fish, anything. I take no chances on my display tanks at all, which may be a bit neurotic, but I have had no infectious disease in a display tank in decades.
I use a 20 high planted tank as a Q-tank. I think a plated tank is heather for the fish. I do have a 20 long as a hospital tank if needed. I normally quarantine fish for 3 weeks or until I need the tank for a new set of fish.
I’m about to setup a larger new planted tank this week end. I have got a lot of the fish and plants for it about 2 months ago. The bad part the large amount of algae I will be getting with this set up in the next 2 weeks. I only have one algae eater to put in there. But that’s what I will be getting next in my Q-tank. i might just q-tank them for a week.
