I would like to get some shrimp for my aquarium, but I know nothing about them. I have a 29 gallon tank with 11 Cardinal tetras and a 4 inch common pleco. Can anyone suggests a good species for me along with as much information as possible about them. (Such as what to feed them)

Ghost shrimp or amano shrimp. They can go by different names. The amano are more expensive and the ghost are usually quite cheap and sold as feeders. They pretty much just pick up extra food from the bottom, nibble on algae and such. I have tried feeding mine tablets and veggies but they seem to ignore it and the snails get it instead.

Just a quick thought on Amano's, they are cool, but will go for a walk outside the tank if it isn't covered well.

If it is a planted tank, get Amanos or Cherry Reds - they are both good algae eaters. If it is unplanted, ghosts are fine - they are a bit larger and excellent scavengers, but relatively poor algae eaters.

Have fun with them. I just turned one of my lil' 10 gallon tanks into a crustacean only tank. 1 Wood Shrimp, 2 Crayfish, and 8 Ghost Shrimp...they're pretty cool to watch as well. Isn't there some kind of crayfish that is blue or something like that?

Yeah, they sell blue crayfish at any LFS with a good variety of fish. I saw one the other day. It was cute :D

No kidding! I love these shrimpies as they are excellent algae eaters but in my 10 gallon I lost all of my amanos 'cause the top does not fit as tightly as it should. I found all of them one by one about ten feet from the tank all dried up. :( I am going to get more and this time I will be really careful with keeping them in the tank!

That is funny as I keep mine in an open top 5 gallon betta tank and so far everyone has stayed put. It has been 5 months so far.
