Shrimps of the Amazon River ?

Is there such a thing as a freshwater shrimp from the Amazon river? As I am trying to set up only amazon blackwater biotope?


Any help would be appericated!

I'm not interested in macros due to their aggression towards fish as I am planning to do cardinal tetras but thanks for the suggestion as I looked for the macro from the amazon but couldn't find one from south america from petshrimp.com
 
"vampire" shrimp are native to Eastern South America as well as West Africa. They're rare, but if your tank is large enough to support them (they are one of the largest FW shrimp avalible) they are worth looking in to. They are peaceful filter feeders, and sort of resemble large, bulky wood/bamboo shrimp.
 
I doubt that Vampire Shrimp naturally occur in SA. That just doesn't sound right.

Well, Petshrimp isn't a good site anyways. There are macros in SA, but I do agree it wouldn't be too good an idea for your setup.

I've also seen SA ghost shrimp being sold here and there, though most places stock the US native species.

petshrimp did seem controlled, I thought perhaps cuz the information was small however I'll keep my hopes up and keep my eye open when I see one on aquabid, perhaps it'll come up *keeps my fingers crossed*
